BENGALURU: Museums, where dust motes have settled on ancient artefacts from 10,000 BC, can be the setting for an exciting treasure hunt. City-based Rereeti has planned a series of activities starting today, International Museum Day, and they will be on till May 21.
Adults can whip out their mobile phones for that treasure hunt put together by Sparrowz, and children can sit through story-telling sessions by Vikram Sridhar and Shreya Biswas and creative writing workshops by Andaleeb Wajid and Aparna Raman.
Rereeti, set up in 2015, wants people to know that museums are fun places if you know where to look. They help museums too organise events to reconnect with their audiences. The group has worked with schools to create educational modules highlighting the importance of museum collections.
“Rereeti means transitions,” says Tejashvi Jain, its founder and director. “Museums are holders of tradition of sorts and we mean to revitalise them.” She used to work with the National Gallery of Modern Art earlier and has over 13 years of experience curating shows and teaching in colleges.
Tejashvi says that the Government Museum, which will host this event, is one of the most underrated ones in the city. “It has objects from the Megalithic times onwards and Bengaluru’s history never talk about this period,” she says.
