Journey

Every story has its roots, and ours began with a deep recognition that museums in India, rich in tradition, needed a renewed vision—a way to engage more meaningfully with their audiences, communities, and purpose. Inspired by the Sanskrit word Reeti, meaning tradition, we embraced the prefix Re- to reflect revitalisation and reimagination, embodying our commitment to transforming these cultural spaces into vibrant, inclusive hubs that resonate with the present while honouring the past.
Our journey has been one of passion, persistence, and purpose. Along the way, we have brainstormed, debated, stumbled, and celebrated small victories that fuel our vision. What follows is a tapestry of moments that shaped our path, the people who believed in us, and the values that continue to inspire us.

Before 2015

It all began with an international training, where exposure to the transformative role museums play in people's lives sparked the idea of creating a much-needed platform for India. Conversations, workshops, and travels over the years shaped this vision, culminating in the first-ever blog for the museum sector—the seed of what would grow into ReReeti. These were the days of unpolished dreams, brimming with possibility.

2015 Cell Workshop
2015 -17

The journey officially began with an interactive workshop for high school students at VITM, Bengaluru. We continued hosting events at cultural spaces across Bengaluru, built our first website, and proudly curated and executed our first festival for International Museum Day. Each step felt thrilling yet daunting—we were laying the foundation, unsure where it would lead, but exhilarated by the potential.

2017 Sam People
2018

This year marked an exciting new chapter as we launched our community engagement vertical with volunteer programme training. Our first major initiative, White Pepper, Black Pepper, brought together school workshops, field trips, a mobile treasure hunt across the city, and a much-loved travelling exhibition. The joy and curiosity we sparked were a validation of our vision.

2019 Mehrangarh
2019

This was a special one. Joining the Access and Inclusion in South and Southeast Asian Museums delegation in Jodhpur was a humbling experience that reinforced the importance of our work. Meanwhile, the designer behind our travelling exhibition won the Best Graduate Project from the National Institute of Design—an achievement we hold close to our hearts.

2020-2021 Talking Museums
2020 - 21

During these pandemic years, the world came to a halt and with it, so did our usual ways of working. Slowly we pivoted to digital platforms, finding new ways to connect and contribute. Online workshops took centre stage, and we launched the Talking Museums series to keep conversations alive and navigate the challenges together. Our research vertical took shape with our first collaboration, and our community engagement expanded to include India’s first-ever Youth Advisory Board.

2022 UI
2022

It was the year of focusing on urgent themes like sustainability, launching the IMACC initiative, a bold step, driven by hope and responsibility. We also ventured into digital storytelling with Un.Divided Identities, our first immersive exhibition with international collaborators.

2023-24
2023 - 24

These years have been about deepening our roots and broadening our horizons. Handing over the volunteer training programme after six amazing years was bittersweet. We launched a handbook on sustainable practices for the sector and expanded our research beyond museums to include cultural spaces, opening new doors for connecting people with arts and culture.

2025

As the year unfolds, we look forward to the journey ahead and sharing our stories with you. Here’s to the milestones ahead and celebrating 10 amazing years together!
